This term Curtis has been participating in reading sessions with some of our pupils.  Reading alongside a dog enables our pupils to practice their reading skills in a relaxed environment.  Curtis acts a non-judgemental and attentive listening partner enabling the pupils to relax and enjoy the reading experience.  As a result, we hope that they will build self-esteem, improve reading skills and associate reading with something pleasant.

Tuesday 29th September

Our latest addition to the school is a barbeque lodge, this is a copy of buildings used in Lapland by the reindeer herders for shelter to keep warm and have hot food and sleep if needed.  Phoenix School will be using this unique structure for a variety of lessons, including reading as it is very cosy and will help the pupils concentrate in a peaceful room.  The lodge also has a barbeque in the middle of it which will be used for cooking by pupils and for work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Monday 7th September

During the summer term Primary Students from 2G and 4B took part in a 6 week long song-writing project with Spitalfields Music. Students worked with professional musicians and project leaders in order to compose their own songs which were centred on the theme of Journeys. The project culminated with Students showcasing their compositions in a performance, to Parents and the rest of the school, alongside all of the musicians involved in the project. Everyone involved in the project had a lot of fun and all Students showed good progress in their confidence, musicianship and performance skills as a direct result of taking part.

Monday 7th September

Congratulations to all of Phoenix School for receiving the Healthy School Gold Award. Well done to Shakeel & Maryam for representing the pupils at Phoenix School.
