Key Stage 3

In KS3 we follow an exciting modified national curriculum. This gives us the opportunity to teach a range of subjects in an innovative way ensuring that all pupils are given the opportunity to express their views using a variety of communication tools such as PECS and makaton. Our curriculum involves the three main core areas and subjects such as Art, Drama, Music, Design Technology, Food Technology, Horticulture, Humanities and RE and PSHEC. Yoga, water therapy and sensory activities in the sensory theatre are used a tool to enhance the curriculum and develop communication and social interaction skills. Across the KS3 department teachers use the local environment such as visits to parks, shops and museum to support pupils’ awareness of the local area and curriculum areas. KS3 students are all actively involved in a range of outdoor activities such as canoeing, cycling, gardening and orienteering every Friday afternoon. Every Spring Term our students are given the opportunity to go on a residential outing to Gorsefield. They engage in building camp fires, orienteering through the woods and lots of other exciting activities such as archery and biking.
