Phoenix Summer Fete - Tuesday 20th June 2023
Opening of the Phoenix Garden Centre, 6th June 2023
Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr. Maium Talukdar came to officially open our Garden Centre. It was a lovely opening ceremony with wonderful speeches by students who stepped forward to share their experiences of Horticulture at Phoenix. Later in the day, Lisa Fraser, Director of Education, came to visit. Some of our sixth form students spoke proudly and enthusiastically to her about the work they do in the garden centre and what we have achieved so far. Throughout the day we welcomed classes in to look around, enjoy rosemary (from our garden!) and lemon biscuits, other picnic snacks and activities. It was great to see so many students, parents and other members of our school community enjoy a relaxing time in our garden centre surroundings.
A big thank you to all involved for making this event a success and especially the students for their hard work in helping to get the garden centre up and running.
Our garden centre is open daily and we welcome all our school community to come and visit!

Science Week
Last week we celebrated British Science Week across the school. The theme was Connections and pupils enjoyed a range of workshops and activities in class exploring this theme. In the bubble workshop, pupils had the opportunity to watch and blow giant bubbles, make their own bubble wand and create bubble explosions. The absolute favourite was going inside a giant bubble! In the slime workshop, pupils worked together to see how far they could stretch slime and then followed instructions to make their own slime. In class, pupils took part in lots of different experiments - colour connections, light connections, sense connections, electrical connections and engineering connections. Lots of fun was had by all pupils and staff!
Horticulture
Recently Key Stage 5 went on a the trip to the local B&Q store . They had a great experience, bought bedding plants to design their own planters for spring display. The students were encouraged to consider the height, colour combination and flowering times of the plants while choosing their own bedding plants that would go into their planters. Their designed planters had been displayed at the Phoenix Upper south entrance of the school for every body to enjoy the spring blossom.
