PSHEC & SRE
Our school ethos is led by the Rights Respecting Schools initiative, working to ensure pupils are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
PSHEC is seen as vital to our pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, as it helps to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of successive stages in their lives.
Pupils are taught the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, being part of the community and an understanding of self and relationships with others.
The current curriculum follows the National Curriculum themes of health, lifestyle and wellbeing, my world and the wider world, me and my relationship with others and keeping safe. Sex and relationships education is taught in school to promote social safety and awareness.
Citizenship is recognised in every aspect of school life and it is conveyed intentionally and unintentionally through the planned and hidden school curriculum. Pupils in the secondary department follow a comprehensive, adapted citizenship curriculum to meet their needs and understanding of the world around them.
The school's provision of opportunities for learning, motivating activities and its system of rewards are instrumental in promoting pupils understanding of good citizenship. These are supplemented by the school's efforts to provide opportunities for links with the outside world through parents and visitors, educational visits, school journeys, work experience, links in the community and internationally. There are diverse external events and projects throughout the year to develop pupils understanding of the wider world.
