Science
Science at Phoenix School aims to stimulate and excite all pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. Through play and observation pupils are learning scientific concepts from a very early age and because of its practical nature, science can engage learners at many levels. The science department also recognizes the importance of its role in developing the pupils` literacy, ICT and mathematical skills and actively seeks to develop these areas through the teaching and learning of science.
Aims:
To ensure science is relevant and accessible to all pupils.
To ensure all pupils achieve to the best of their ability.
To encourage pupils to value, protect and understand their immediate environment extending to the whole world.
To encourage pupils to work in a safe manner in school and in everyday life by ensuring that they recognise hazards and risks when working with living things and materials.
To incorporate literacy, ICT and numeracy skills into scientific learning.
To relate Science to everyday life and to consider the sensitivity needed when working with living things and the environment.
To engage the pupils in relevant, interactive first hand experiences.
To encourage pupils to work co-operatively and collaboratively, developing their confidence when communicating ideas.
